The Sudbury Symphony Orchestra Closes 12.13 Season

with The Last Night of the Proms

Sudbury, ON May 1, 2013: Maestro Brian Jackson and the SSO present Last Night of the Proms, a beloved concert tradition which originated with the BBC Symphony’s Promenade Series- one night only, on Saturday May 11th, 8pm at Glad Tidings.

This cherished British tradition is a fun-filled spectacle brimming with popular light classics and patriotic tunes, such as Jerusalem, and Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance No. 1, along with a helping of showtune favourites from Phantom of the Opera and the Pirates of Penzance

“Last Night of the Proms is a night of musical mayhem,” Executive Director Dawn Cattapan states, “You never know what surprises the orchestra may present during this concert, which makes it one of our favourites.” Audience members are encouraged to participate in the festivities by bringing their own Union Jacks or other flags to wave during the concert and sing, stamp and clap along to the songs. For those without flags, the SSO will provide small Canadian flags that can be kept as souvenirs following the concert.

Maestro Brian Jackson returns to conduct the Sudbury Symphony in this concert with his trademark flair and humour. Thoroughly steeped in all things British in the world of music, Maestro Jackson has conducted numerous Proms and POPS-style concerts; most recently, “A Viennese New Year Celebration” on February 2 with the SSO.

Tickets for the May 11 “Last Night of the Proms” begin at $25, and are available by phoning the SSO at 705.673.1280 or online at sudburysymphony.com. This concert is proudly presented by RBC Dominion Securities.
