A one-stop site to get (green) information about Mayoral and Councillor candidates in the City of Greater Sudbury

Sudbury, August 5, 2014 –  Having trouble keeping track of all the candidates in the upcoming municipal election?   Looking for an easy way to find your candidates’ contact information, websites and platforms?  Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury is excited to launch our new website sudburycandidates.ca to provide citizens with easy access to the information they need to make an informed choice when they vote.

Bookmark http://sudburycandidates.ca/ to keep informed on mayoral and ward candidates.   Check back for new information on candidates and their platforms as the election approaches.

Our message to voters -  get informed and get involved.  Get familiar with your candidates’ platforms.  What are the issues you care about?   Contact your candidates to ask them questions and to let them know what’s important to you.   If you find a candidate that really resonates with you, consider helping with their campaign.  Be a part of getting your priorities represented at City Hall!

Our message to community groups – please inform us of any election events or candidate survey results from your group, so that they can be posted at sudburycandidates.ca.

Candidates have been informed of the site, and encouraged to share their platforms as they are released.

“We are excited to provide this resource for voters as part of our work supporting citizens in being engaged in their community,” says Naomi Grant, Chair of Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury.   Special attention is given to candidates’ platforms on sustainable transportation, water quality, the natural environment, local food, and citizen engagement.  These pillars of a green, healthy, and engaged community are the top priorities of the local environmental community, decided on by consensus by over 20 local ‘green’ groups.   “These are also the issues, we hear about from citizens,” she continued, “better transit and more bike lanes, improving the health of our lakes and rivers, preserving our natural environment and green spaces, and more access to local foods.

On sudburycandidates.ca, we have collated information on each candidate to provide citizens with an accessible and objective tool to learn about and compare their candidates’ platforms and positions.  All information is directly taken from candidates’ public platforms and official statements.  We are making every effort to present factual and fair information directly sourced from the candidates. None of the volunteers responsible for this webpage are candidates, or working on the campaign of a candidate.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
