Local Arts Company Opens New Venue and Arts School

There’s a new kid on the block in the arts scene.  Verve, a local company known for its summer drama camp, has recently opened a new multi-arts venue along with its new Verve School of Theatre + Film at 178 Elm St (where you used to pay your parking tickets).

This new venue is a place for creativity and innovation and is home to the Verve School of Theatre + Film, Verve Next, and Verve Drama Camp.

“Verve is a really neat organization to me.” says Matkai Burmaster-Hansen, General Manager & Founder of Verve Arts, “What I have created is an organization with three independent branches: Verve School + Film which is a place for Arts Education for children and teens, Verve Next, which is an experimental theatre company for adults, and Verve Drama Camp which is a fun place to explore the arts during summer, march break, and PD Days.”

The school itself is unlike anything else in the city as it focusses on instruction about the theatre and film industries including courses in acting, scriptwriting, filmmaking, improvisation, design, musical theatre, and more.  The goal of the school is to provide an extra-curricular after-school program for students in both elementary and high school.

“I am really excited for the possibilities.  Sudbury is always saying they want more arts and this new venue, school, camp, and theatre company will help make that happen.” says Burmaster-Hansen.

More information on all branches of Verve can be found at vervearts.ca or by calling 705-222-ARTS.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
