Northern Lights Festival launches 1 st annual OktoberFest!

Northern Lights Festival Boréal is a seasoned presenter of roots, indie, world and modern music in Northern Ontario. For 43 years, NLFB has presented its annual three day festival on the shores of Lake Ramsey, featuring renowned musical icons along with exciting emerging acts. Using the knowledge and experience gained from years of presenting a diversity of music and art, NLFB is launching a brand new festival event: Northern Lights OktoberFest.

This will be the first major Oktoberfest event for Northern Ontario, and is guaranteed to be a hit! The event, scheduled for October 3 rd and 4 th , will feature: craft beer tasting from a variety of breweries, a full lineup of great live music; German style foods, cultural activities and much more. The event is both a fundraiser for NLFB and a harvest celebration, which will take place in Bell Park, along Paris St., under several giant tents.

“We are beyond excited to announce this new event,” says Max Merrifield, Executive Director of the organization. “Seeing the success and reception of similar events in other regions (such as Kitchener-Waterloo), we are sure this is an event that will grow and prosper in Sudbury.”

NLFB has teamed up with Sudbury's German Language School in order to foster a rich and interesting cultural aspect of the event. Attendees may learn a little German or a little more about Bavarian culture, while having a ton of fun. Musical programming will involve some traditional and contemporary German content, mixed with a variety of great dance bands and energetic musical entertainers. Lineup announcements will occur over the next few weeks via the NLFB website and social media.

$20 admission to the event includes a free beer stein and a Sudbury Transit pass for the duration of the event. Tickets are now on-sale and can be purchased at various outlets throughout the city: Laurentian SGA, Old Rock Roastery (Minto), Gloria's Convenience (Bouchard), and the NLFB office (19 Grey St.). They are also available online at www.nlfbsudbury.com. The event will run from 5pm to midnight on October 3 rd , and from noon to midnight on October 4 th . Further information on the event can be found by visiting the NLFB website, or by contacting the NLFB office at 705-674-5512.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
