MEDIA RELEASE: It’s spring! Get out your bike. Get your Sudbury Cyclists Union membership!

Blog posts reflect the views of their authors.

Do you love to get out on your bike?  Would you like to get out riding with others, or join in on other fun cycling events?   Are you interested in connecting with other cyclists to swap tips on routes, repairs, and all things bike related?  Do you ever wish there was a better or safer bike route to where you need to go?  Then you should join the Sudbury Cyclists Union!

You can get your membership on-line http://sudburycyclistsunion.ca/join
Or, you can pick up your membership at reThink Green (176 Larch, 3rd floor) during business hours.
Annual memberships are $10 or pay what you can.  Membership dues are needed for insurance and event expenses so that we can hold group rides and other fun events like Bike Repair BBQs.  Help us build cycling skills, cycling culture, and connect cyclists in Greater Sudbury!

The Sudbury Cyclists Union is launching our membership drive and if you love cycling, want to connect with other cyclists, or want to support cycling in Greater Sudbury, we want you to join!

Here are a few of the benefits of becoming a member:

·         Connect with other cyclists.  Get tips, share cycling stories and favourite routes, and enjoy all things cycling together.

·         Come out to events like fun group rides and spring tune-up BBQ’s.

·         Volunteer at events to promote cycling, like helping with bike parking at local festivals, matching bikes and helmets with kids at bike exchanges, teaching cycling skills at bike rodeos or courses, and more.

·         Have your needs and experiences as a cyclist brought to the attention of local decision makers

·         Be part of a strong voice for local cyclists to help make cycling easier, safer and more convenient.  For example, the Sudbury Cyclists Union advocates for a minimum grid of safe cycling routes so that cyclists of all ages and abilities can travel safely by bike.  You can help make that happen by joining to show your support!

“There is a groundswell of interest and support for cycling in Greater Sudbury,” says Rachelle Niemela, Chair of the Sudbury Cyclists Union.  “We invite cyclists of all ages and abilities to join us in celebrating the joy of cycling, and making cycling easier, safer and more convenient in our community.”   Cyclists should also save the date for the Sudbury Cyclists Union AGM, coming up the evening of April 27.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.

Currently, the Sudbury working group is on pause, due to a lack of members.  If you are keen to take on the challenge of creating and supporting local grassroots media, please get in touch.

Contact us at grassrootssudburymedia@gmail.com or follow us on Facebook.

If we become active again, we encourage you to support local grassroots media by:

  • Getting a membership. Membership fees are intended to pay local writers for local content and support emerging writers.  Membership forms are here
  • Submitting content. We are able to pay for a limited number of strong local pieces.  Contact us to pitch an idea, or for story ideas.   See our Editorial Policy here.  We encourage local grassroots groups to submit content about their work, issues and events.
