The Sudbury District Beekeepers Association is offering an introductory beekeeping course Saturday, June 14th at the home of a local beekeeper.

The course consists of 4 one-hour sessions:

- How to assemble all the equipment needed to keep bees: boxes, frames, bottom boards, etc.

- The bee yard: how to find the queen - includes hands-on experience handling stingless drones to learn how to mark queen bees

-Honey extraction: how to use necessary equipment, the honey house, extracting honey, saving wax

- Approaching the hive: techniques, how to use a smoker, what to look for in your hives

Cost is $50 and includes a detailed manual created by local beekeeper, Neil Jones. A BBQ lunch will be provided and is included in the cost.

Join us for a fun day of learning with knowledgeable local beekeepers. You don't need any experience or any equipment. Bee jackets will be available for use at the seminar.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
