Sudbury's Save Canada Post Committee Presents
Public Awareness Meeting and Community BBQ

Sudbury, Ontario – The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Local 612's Save Canada Post Committee will present a public information session and community BBQ, taking place at Adamsdale Park (Playground), Sudbury on Saturday, October 18th.
As part of CUPW's National Week of Action to protest the cuts to door-to-door mail delivery, Local 612 is proud to bring a public awareness meeting to the community. This information session will include a community BBQ where members Local 612 will share information with the public about the needless cuts to door-to-door mail delivery. These planned cuts are not yet confirmed and it is up to the citizens of our community to tell Canada Post and the federal government, that these cuts are unwanted.
Cuts to door-to-door delivery will have serious impacts on Sudbury:
Loss of an estimated 32 jobs translates into around $1.75M from the local community in salary. That's money that leaves local businesses and local taxes.
Local businesses rely on mail delivery and higher postal rates will cost them. These costs will be passed on to their customers.
Cleanliness: Community Mail Boxes (CMBs) will crowd neighbourhoods increasing litter and reducing property values.
Tax Increases: CMBs on city property require insurance, and the city will be required to increase its coverage. This will cost local taxpayers in municipal taxes.
Loss of community connection: Letter Carriers are a part of the local neighbourhood; they know their customers by name and look out for them.
The event is free and will take place from 11:00am-2:00pm. Community education and outreach will take place from 11:00am until 1:00pm with the BBQ beginning at 1:00pm.
