MEDIA RELEASE: Go “Beyond COP20” With Dr. David Robinson

Blog posts reflect the views of their authors.

COP20 is now underway in Lima, Peru.  At this critical time in the lead-up to next year’s expected global agreement on climate change in Paris, France, please join Laurentian University Associate Professor of Economics, and Economics for Northern Ontario blogger Dr. David Robinson, for a discussion entitled “Beyond COP20” (7 PM, Thursday, December 11, 2014, at ReThink Green - 176 Larch Street).

Dr. Robinson will present, in layman’s terms, what the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) 20th Conference of the Parties (COP20), is expected to accomplish, and how international negotiations may impact Northern Ontario’s resource-based economy.

Themes to be discussed:

·         Will the global community follow the lead of the United States and China, and agree to limit emissions through a “Kyoto Protocol” style agreement?

·         Will carbon pricing play a role in an international agreement?

·         How might a new agreement in Paris in 2015 impact Northern Ontario’s and Greater Sudbury’s economies?

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
