Fifty things to do before you're 12 (or at any age)

New banners invite you to enjoy the best playground of all – nature!

For immediate release

Sudbury, November 15, 2016 –  Have you splashed in a puddle lately?  How about skipping stones, jumping in fall leaves, rolling down a hill, or finding out what was hiding under a fallen log?

Nature really is the best playground, and there is no end of exciting things to do along your favourite trail or in your local green space.  Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury volunteers have put up colourful hand-made banners with some of these fun (and free) activities you can do on the spot.  So get out with your family and friends and enjoy the outdoors!

You can find the banners along Walk Sudbury routes on the Junction Creek trail, in Bell Park, in Minnow Lake and in the Flour Mill  (routes #:  4, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15).  Find the routes at:  http://walksudbury.ca/

The activities are taken from “50 things to do before you're 12”, and you can find the full list from EarthCare Sudbury at:  https://www.greatersudbury.ca/living/environmentally-friendly/pdf-documents/50-things-to-do-before-you-re-12/

“Whatever your age, being out in nature makes you feel good, and we’re very lucky to have an abundance of trails and green spaces to enjoy in Greater Sudbury,” said Naomi Grant, co-chair of Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury.   Spending time outside and being active contributes to physical and mental health.

Putting up the banners is a good example of a small, do-able project that any community group, or group of friends or neighbours could do.   “These small actions bring people together and add delight to our neighbourhoods, and they are something any of us can do,” added Grant.

“50 things to do before you’re 12” banners is a tactical urbanism project of Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
