The Sudbury & District Beekeepers Association (SDBA) is all about "Beekeepers Helping Beekeepers". The 100 or so members are primarily hobbyists, with only 4 having operations with more than 10 hives. Still, with a single hive housing around 60,000 bees, that's a lot of bees!

A day with a local Sudbury beekeeper

Finally a sunny, warm day; well, not that warm because we're all wearing jackets but spring-like at least. It's been a harsh winter - the coldest temperatures and most snow northern Ontario has seen in nearly twenty years. We're in the last week of April and there's still a lot of snow piled up in shady areas but it's going.

On Thursday afternoon, Levack resident Martha Cunningham Closs heard a knock at her door. It was a Greater Sudbury By-Law Enforcement Officer informing her that the City had received a complaint because she had not yet cut her grass this summer. The officer informed her that grass cannot be kept more than six inches tall.
