Cultivating community resilience in 2013, one local bite at a time

Eat Local Sudbury encourages community support as it enters its next phase of evolution

Eat Local Sudbury Co-operative (ELS) is a not-for-profit social enterprise that promotes food security in Sudbury and throughout the northeast by connecting local farmers and consumers. From February 12th until March 27st Eat Local invites the Greater Sudbury community to show their support for local food through a donation to our crowd-funding project. The funds raised will give Eat Local the boost it needs to reach financial security and ensure that local food becomes a permanent part of life in our community.

Eat Local Sudbury is not just a store, it is an innovative social enterprise devoted to public education, supporting the development of the local food economy, and developing infrastructure and relationships to encourage trade in the North. ELS is proud of the successes that have been achieved this year. The co-op has seen a major interior renovation, welcomed a record number of members, hosted a wildly popular chef showdown gala, and helped ever greater numbers of people access an increasing variety of local food.

The time is right for ELS to aim for the stars. Using crowd-funding—an emerging fund-raising strategy that leverages the power of social networking and the internet—in association with more traditional methods, the co-op aims to raise the $25,000 dollars it needs to complete key projects and expand operations. The centerpiece of the project is an inspiring video created to explain Eat Local and help the community to band together around this important cause.

Dates: February 12th – March 27st 2013

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
