Green Party of Ontario Nominates Casey Lalonde to represent Sudbury
SUDBURY – Grassroots members of the Green Party of Ontario tonight nominated Casey Lalonde to represent the Green Party in the Sudbury riding in the next provincial election.
“It is an honour to be selected by Green Party members to represent the Sudbury riding for the Ontario Greens,” Lalonde said after tonight's nomination meeting. “I know that the Green Party's messages for Ontarians will resonate with voters here in Sudbury. Whether it's about creating a more accessible and democratic environment for land development proposals by significantly overhauling or abolishing the Ontario Municipal Board, or merging public and catholic school boards to eliminate wasteful duplication, the Green Party is the only party in Ontario with the courage to discuss systemic changes which will help create a more sustainable future for our Province.”
Casey Lalonde is currently working towards a degree in psychology at Laurentian University. She has studied sociology for four years. She has served as Vice President of Student Issues for the Laurentian Students General Association. This past year, she participated in the Laurentian University Model Parliament in Ottawa, where she was the leader of the Model Parliament's Green Party.
“Throughout my candidacy, my focus will be on promoting political engagement amongst all citizens, with a special focus on youth,” said Lalonde. “Too often, students and young voters choose not to vote, and low voter turnout is one of the factors which is leading to a crisis in our democracy. Many people don't vote because they feel disenfranchised or because they feel that their votes won't matter. Whether a voter ends up voting for me or another candidate, I think that it's important for me to try to encourage as many Sudburians to vote as possible.”

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
