October 20: Renowned speaker on learning disabilities and ADHD in Sudbury

An inspirational speaker of international acclaim will be in Sudbury during Learning Disabilities Awareness Month to deliver a free public presentation for students, parents/guardians, educators and community members.

Jonathan Mooney, a writer with dyslexia, will share his personal story as he highlights the struggles of students with learning disabilities and ADHD in the traditional school setting. His presentation will take place on Sunday, October 20th, 2013 in the Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome.

With humour and wit, Jonathan Mooney speaks honestly about the systemic and cultural barriers to normalizing unique learning styles.  Most importantly, he empowers parents/guardians and educators with strategies and emphasizes that it is okay to learn differently. He highlights the gifts that come with having a learning disability.

Jonathan Mooney is the author of Learning Outside the Lines. He is also Executive Director of Project Eye to Eye, a nationally acclaimed mentoring program for children with learning disabilities. He has spoken in more than 43 states and three countries.

The Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury (LDAS) is hosting Jonathan Mooney in partnership with Huntington University, the Rainbow District School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee and Cambrian College. A proud United Way funded agency, The Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury would like to thank these educational partners for their support.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
