Residents of St. Gabrielle’s Villa are now Connected to the Community
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 30, 2013
It has taken two years since the first request by a resident of St. Gabrielle’s Villa to have the gravel path paved so that she could get to other parts of the community, and this month the request HAS become a reality.
Under the guidance of Rainbow Routes Association and the City of Greater Sudbury, the finishing touches are being put on a newly paved path between the Villa located on MR 15 in Chelmsford to Place Bonaventure Mall and to the neighbourhood streets to the east of the retirement residence.
“We have 128 residents living here at the Villa St Gabriel Villa and the majority of them use assistive devices to improve their mobility: scooters, wheel chairs, walker and canes,” said Site Administrator, Gloria Richer. “Because of decreased mobility, a paved, even surface is imperative to providing a safe route to the area’s amenities. The residents are so excited that the work is nearly complete on the path and are eager to see the finished product.”
In all, close to 800 meters have been paved and will provide an opportunity for both Villa residents and the local neighbourhood to get outdoors and access destinations by foot or “wheel”.
“The ‘Two Claudes’ have been dogged in ensuring that this path improvement took place,” said Rainbow Routes Executive Director Deb McIntosh. “City Councilor Claude Berthiaume and MP Claude Gravelle have received numerous calls over the last two years and in turn I’ve been getting calls from them. I know they will be pleased to share this news with their constituents.”
The community and visitors to the Villa are encouraged to check out the improved route.

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
