MEDIA RELEASE: Winter Indie Music Fest Announced in Sudbury!

Blog posts reflect the views of their authors.

Northern Lights Festival Boréal is partnering with local indie rock group The Almighty Rhombus in order to present an exciting indoor indie music festival Feb.-Mar. 2, 2014.  The event has been titled ‘The Big Basement Show’, and the artistic lineup will be selected by The Almighty Rhombus. Organizers are excited to announce the first two acts on the roster: psychedelic/indie rock powerhouse Public Animal and one-of-kind musical funnyman B.A. Johnston (bios attached). The event is a celebration of the indie music scene, locally and beyond. For NLFB, this is one more great opportunity to present music filled with diversity. Earlybird tickets are on sale now at Ticketbreak.com or at the Facebook event page for ‘The Big Basement Show’.  Please consult the rather hilarious message provided by The Almighty Rhombus:

“-----------BEGIN TRANSMISSION FROM RHOMBUS LABS INC-------------

Most esteemed members of the media,

This is Sudbury’s favourite and most handsome rock band speaking, the Almighty Rhombus! Having now conquered the worlds of music and visual media, we are turning our attention to concert promotion as part of our campaign to end world hunger by taking over the world and ruling it as a benevolent 5-person oligarchy.

Our first foray into concert promotion is a festival called the BIG BASEMENT SHOW. We are partnering with Northern Lights Festival Boréal to bring Canada’s best indie acts to Sudbury for the weekend of Feb 28-March 2. It will take place in the basement of Theatre Cambrian, as well as at the Townehouse Tavern. THE BIG BASEMENT SHOW will remind you how much fun it is to watch cool bands.

The BIG BASEMENT SHOW will be open to all ages, and there will also be alcohol served. EVERYONE CAN COME and SOME PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO DRINK BOOZE! Until January 1st, we are offering weekend passes for just $25, which in case you didn’t know is ridiculously cheap to see 20 bands over the course of 3 days.

We will be announcing 2 new bands every single week, so keep your ears, eyes and sixth senses peeled! For this week, we have announced BA JOHNSTON and PUBLIC ANIMAL.

Love,

THE ALMIGHTY RHOMBUS

P.S. If you want to get ahold of us to chat about this festival or to schedule a romantic evening with the band member of your choice, you can e-mail us at thealmightyrhombus@gmail.com, or you can call our keyboard player Clayton Drake on the phone at 705-822-2976.

P.P.S People can buy tickets here:

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
