MEDIA RELEASE: Sudbury Arts Council Presents Info About Senior Artists' Association

The Sudbury Arts Council will present an information session about The Canadian Senior Artists’ ResourceNetwork (CSARN), a group that supports and provides information for professional performing, visual, media and literary artists over the age of 60.
Joysanne Sidimus, a representative of CSARN, will speak about a mentorship program that involves seniorartists and young emerging artists Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Parkside Centre, downtown Sudbury from 2 to 4
pm. There is no charge to attend this session open to senior and emerging artists. There is no need to preregister.
If accepted into the program, mentors will be paid for their time and mentees will be paid for supplies.
“Generally, professional artists are defined as professional or practising artists by their peers, have completed formal or informal training, have been performing their art or craft for an established period of time, exhibit their work, spend a significant amount of time practising their art, and seek payment for their work,” says Sudbury Arts Council president Vicki Gilhula

What kind of mentorship opportunities will be offered by CSARN?
Traditional one-on-one arrangements* Senior artists in either lectures or residencies in schools, businesses or other institutions* Seminars, workshops or lectures, for smaller groups or the public* Senior artists’ residencies in communities.
What are the benefits to the mentors?
Confirmation their knowledge, experience and wisdom remain relevant and necessary for the ongoing development of their art form, and the development of the mentee artists. * Awareness they have a marketable range of skills and wisdom in mentorship, and the continuing opportunity to be a mentor if they have done it before.* The possibility of expanding networks and obtaining future work.
How will the program work?
Qualified professional senior artists will indicate their willingness to be a mentor and through a questionnaire will identify areas they can share knowledge and expertise. A database will be prepared. Qualified artists will apply to the program and indicate what they hope to learn from a mentor. A program will match the applicant to an appropriate mentor.
