Renowned author, playwright, music composer and the most recent Honorary Doctorate recipient from Thorneloe University, Tomson Highway will elaborate on the origin of his career as a writer, and discuss his many sources of inspiration. As the proud son of legendary caribou hunter and world championship dog racer, Joe Highway, and artist-in-her-own-right (as bead-worker and quilt-maker extraordinaire), Pelagic Highway, he is a full-blood Cree and holds a Bachelor of Music Honours (Piano Performance major, 1975) and a Bachelor of Arts (English major, 1976), both from Western University. Highway will explore the many great influences that have had an impact on his work and will also play some piano excerpts from his musical compositions.
