FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
‘BIG BASEMENT SHOW’ INDIE FESTIVALKICKS OFF THIS FRIDAY!

A brand new indie music festival is happening this weekend, right here in Sudbury. The event is presented and curated by local power-pop group The Almighty Rhombus, and will take place from Feb. 28 th to Mar. 2 nd . The group has booked an exciting diverse lineup of indie bands from
across Canada including such acclaimed acts as Shotgun Jimmie, By Divine Right, Pistol George Warren, BA Johnston, TV Freaks and Strange Attractor. Afternoon performances will happen at Grace Hall (468 Antwerp) and will be all ages licensed. After-hours performances will happen at The Townehouse Tavern and will be 19+. Organizers want to remind attendees that there will be food and drinks available for purchase at both venues. “We’ve got everything you need: food, drink, awesome retro décor, free video games, and of course a ton of great music from across Canada,” says organizer Clayton Drake. “This could be THE musical event of the winter,” he says.

There are also other activities planned to add to the fun. Between noon and 3pm on March 1 st , music lovers are invited to come enjoy some sliding at the slick sliding hill directly beside Grace Hall. During the same hours on March 2 nd , rockers young and old are invited to take part in a ‘Punk Vest Making Workshop’. People are invited to bring a denim vest or jacket and have it transformed into true rock n’ roll garb, with studs, patches, pins and more.

The festival’s lineup of over 20 bands features some of Canada’s quintessential indie rock acts. By Divine Right is one of these acts, with an influential career spanning over 20 years. Over the years, the band’s roster has featured such musical icons as Feist and Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene. Touring relentlessly, Shotgun Jimmie’s show has become an audience favourite at festivals across Canada, including the Sudbury-based River & Sky Festival. He recently appeared on John K. Samson’s (The Weakerthans) 2012 release Provincial and toured across North America and Europe as Samson’s lead guitarist and opening act. The lineup also features several local acts, which have been turning heads across the country and beyond. Weirdo punk/garage outfit Strange Attractor is one of these bands, and have enjoyed success touring Europe and Canada. “The Big Basement show is for everybody. You say you love live music, but bar shows are just too late for you? No excuses. We’ve got shows running from 4pm – 11pm,” says frontman Jeff Houle, “You’ve got kids? Bring ‘em, the early shows are all-ages. Nobody cool ever comes to town? That’s bull, this event has many of your tastes covered. Drag your friends out for this, and rage with all of the bands coming through town.

You can’t beat the price! Do not sleep on this Sudbury. See you in the front row!”

Organizers would also like to announce that the band Crosss can no longer make the gig, and will be replaced by psych/pre/post/punk label mates Soupcans from Toronto (a worthy replacement!). The Big Basement Show party begins Feb. 28 th at The Townehouse and continues throughout the weekend at The Townehouse and Grace Hall. Tickets are available online at http://www.ticketbreak.com/event_details/6880, at Cosmic Dave’s Vinyl (595 Kathleen) and at The Townehouse (206 Elgin). Weekend passes are $35, and day passes are $25.
