FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NLFB’S ANNUAL MELTDOWN EVENT WANTS TO BRING REGIONAL TALENT INTO 43 RD YEAR

SUDBURY, ON - Northern Lights Festival Boréal's annual Meltdown event is back once again! The event, scheduled for April 12 th , gives emerging musicians the chance to compete for a booking at Northern Lights Festival Boréal 2014, which will take place July 4 th -6 th in Sudbury’s Bell Park. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging artists to gain valuable exposure.

The event will be divided into two portions: Acoustic acts, singer-songwriters and spoken-word artists will perform between 3PM and 6PM while bands and larger groups will perform between 7PM and 11PM at The Townehouse Tavern (206 Elgin St).

Admission for spectators is $7.00 for NLFB members and $10.00 for non-members. The registration fee for performers is $25 per act, and includes a one year membership to NLFB. Performers are each assigned a 20 minute time slot (3 or 4 songs). Participants must be registered by April 9th at the absolute latest. The Townehouse Tavern will be hosting NLFB 2013 alum The 24 th Street Wailers for their ‘Wicked’ album release party after the competition with special pricing for those who plan to stay the whole day.

Those who are interested are asked to contact the NLFB office at 705-674-0422 or nlfbmarketing@gmail.com in order to register. Registration forms are available on the NLFB website, and in the office. NLFB is Canada's longest running outdoor music festival and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2011. The festival attracts anywhere between 10,000 and 15,000 people per year. Over the years NLFB has grown from a one day event called the ‘Northern Lights Folk Festival’ into a seasoned presenter of roots and modern music. The modern NLFB experience can be described as: ‘a roots music festival that loves modern music,’ or ‘a modern music festival that’s in love with its roots.’

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
