Greater Sudbury 6th Overall in Commuter Challenge
For the past three years the community of Greater Sudbury has participated in the Commuter Challenge and competed against cities of a similar size across Canada.
This year Greater Sudbury came in sixth in Canada in our population category by walking, cycling, taking transit and car pooling June 1st to 7th and recording our commutes. 162 participants representing 28 organizations saved 837 litres of fuel and 2006 kg of CO2 and they burned 156,117 calories.
This year the Commuter Challenge organizers recognized representatives from Laurentian University (LU) who burned a whopping 36,973 calories!

Special mention should be made of the employees of Greater Sudbury who had the largest number of participants at 46 walkers, cyclists, transit users and car poolers.
Next year Greater Sudbury will take Gatineau for 5th place!

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
