MEDIA RELEASE: Mural pays homage to Capreol's Railway Heritage

A picture is worth a thousand words. The Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre (NORMHC) is pleased to announce the completion of a new railway themed mural in downtown Capreol. The project was made possible with funding from the Coalition for a Livable Sudbury's Project Impact.

The mural, measuring 53 ft long and 10 ft high, is another piece of the ongoing effort to re-green and beautify Capreol's business sector. It pays tribute to the old passenger trains that once stopped regularly in Capreol, many of which carried new immigrants to the region. "The museum, along with several other local groups including the Capreol Business Association, The Capreol Community Action Network, The Riverfront Committee and the Little Red Cabooses, have been working diligently over the past few years to really improve the town and the way it is received by visitors," explained museum manager Cody Cacciotti. "We really want Capreol to evolve into a top visitor destination for the city of Greater Sudbury."

The design was created by Maxine Lemieux who also volunteered several weeks this summer bringing the design to life. She was aided in her effort by a cast of volunteers that included Anik Lemieux, Albert and Jacqueline Melanson, Sophie Beauchamp, Jayden Daoust, Nicholas Doucet, Mikela Lemieux, Bob Michelutti and Hailey Ireland.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
