Let’s make something cool happen – again!
Project Impact supports small community projects that make a big difference – pitch your idea today.

For Immediate Release

Sudbury, October 27, 2015 – “Wouldn’t it be cool if….” How would you finish that phrase in YOUR neighbourhood? A shared garden? Public art? An event? What would you like to see?

Got an idea for a project in your neighbourhood? Talk to your friends & neighbours, community action network, playground association, school or community groups. Everyone can be a part of making something happen! Fill out an application and see if your project gets enough votes to be funded.

Where do I get information? Applications and project ideas can be found at projectimpact.ca.

Or contact us at clsudbury@live.com or (705) 691-5538. The application deadline is January 30, 2016. Project Impact is funded through your donations! You can help by donating online at projectimpact.ca.

Project Impact began in 2014 with the idea of supporting small community projects that make a big difference. Ideas were pitched, the community voted in libraries and online for their favourite projects, funds (up to $500 each) were distributed and great projects appeared in 2015! If you’ve spotted bird houses along trails, a new mural at the Northern Ontario Railroad Heritage Museum in Capreol, or more milkweed patches and Monarch butterflies near downtown, then you’ve gotten a taste of the impact your neighbours made last year. See all the winning projects and get inspired to submit your own community project!

“We got such a great response from the community and the resulting projects were so amazing that we are doing Project Impact again,” explains Lilly Noble. Karen Marcotte, a volunteer on the Project Impact team, says, “I wasn’t involved for the first Project Impact but I’ve caught the “Project Impact” fever and am excited to see children, seniors and everyone in between step up to do something to better their neighbourhoods - it’s contagious! Together we can have fun and make a difference, let’s do it!”

“Last year, we had hopes of funding three projects” says Naomi Grant. “But with the community’s support and involvement, we were able to fund nine, and support even more. There’s something really great about residents taking the initiative to create positive change together. It’s especially wonderful to see kids and youth take part.” “There are so many great ideas for small projects that can make a big impact,” says Noble. “We are really excited to see what people come up with this year, and to be a part of making them happen.” Noble and Grant are co-Chairs of Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury, which is leading Project Impact.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
