MEDIA RELEASE: SMALL LOCAL RADIO STATION MAKES A BIG MOVE

Blog posts reflect the views of their authors.
March 11, 2016, Sudbury, ON

Laurentian Student and Community Radio Corporation (CKLU 96.7FM) announces that after 31 years of broadcasting live from the campus at Laurentian University, the station is making a big move into the heritage building at the Laurentian University School of Architecture located at the corner of Elm & Elgin street, downtown Sudbury.

As part of the Laurentian University Campus Renewal and Modernization Project, the current home of CKLU in the Mezzanine area of the Student Centre will be no more and we are proud to announce that "Your Station" CKLU will be moving to the heart of the city in Downtown Sudbury.

“We’ve been presented with an amazing opportunity by circumstance,” says Steve Kraus, President of the Board, CKLU. “I can’t think of a better place for CKLU to continue to grow into its next 30 years of operation than in the cultural, artistic and musical hub of the City. We are privileged to be the new neighbors to many fantastic local, independent downtown businesses, clubs and restaurants and be in proximity to some of Sudbury’s other corporate and public radio stations.

"We are thankful for the support that Laurentian University and the Campus Modernization Project has provided to make all of this happen" adds CKLU General Manager Rob Straughan.  "We are lucky to be placed in a vital, visible and central location to continue our independent broadcasting goals.”

Starting in late March the station will begin broadcasting from its new downtown location,  --but fear not radio fans, there are plans underway to keep content fresh, engaging and entertaining throughout the transitional period, so no need to flip that radio dial! We will be posting photos and updates of the move to our Social Media platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) so that listeners can track our progress and stay up to date with all of the exciting changes.

The station’s staff, volunteers and board of directors would like to thank the Laurentian University
students and Greater Sudbury community for their continued support and listenership over the last 30+ years. Expect more exciting news, events, programming and campaigns coming in 2016/17 to continue the independent spirit of radio here in the City of Greater Sudbury.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
