Myths and Mirrors Holds 20th Anniversary Celebration This Saturday
Free event to celebrate all what we have been able to achieve together

Sudbury, ON – For the past 20 years Myths and Mirrors Community Arts has been engaging people and creating art and now it is time to celebrate all that we have accomplished together. That is why this Saturday they are inviting people to come and celebrate the work and the community at a special event.

“It has been an amazing twenty years and we couldn’t have done it without the support and engagement of our community,” says Myths and Mirrors Artistic Director Jesse Brady. “Over the years we have worked with so many people and created so many different types of art. We have seen kids grow up and become artist themselves and we have seen communities change and become more vibrant.”

Started in 1996 as a three-year project, Myths and Mirrors has evolved and grown, while always keeping its focus on giving people a voice in our world. Over the past twenty years they have tackled issues around poverty, the environment, precarious work, youth alienation, mental health, and sexual and gender identities. These projects have not only brought people closer together but have changed our community.

“While the projects and topics have changed over the years, the idea of celebration, coming together to honour and enjoy the work and each other’s company has always remained constant,” says Jesse. “What makes this special is that this celebration isn’t about one work or project, but the collective efforts of all who have worked with us, participated in, or even saw one of our works. That is how we create art. That is how we create community.”

The event is taking place this Saturday, November 19, at Sudbury Secondary School. Doors open at 5:30 and there will be activities and food, as well as some old friends.

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
