Location: End of Somerset Street (off Howie Drive, in Sudbury)
The Sudbury Chapter of the Council of Canadians is organizing a World Water Day Rally / Demonstration that will take place this coming Sunday (March 22). The gathering will take place at 2:00PM at the end of Somerset Street (off Howie Drive)
Speakers are being invited.

The Gogama train wreck
Clear cut logging at Geneva Lake
The Wahnapitae train wreck

Monday, March 23: Meeting of Sudbury Coalition Against Poverty
Time: 6:30pm
Location: Offices of the Sudbury and District Labour Council (Suite 209 upstairs in 109 Elm Street, which is across the street from the Native Friendship Centre)
The venue is wheelchair accessible. Children are welcome to attend, or childcare support is available upon request.
Matters to be discussed include: evaluating the March 19^th speak out against homelessness and the shelter system and free meal event and how to move the struggle forward; the S-CAP 3, a report on the the Raise the Rates campaign strategy meeting in Toronto, affordable housing, meeting with Liberal MPP Glenn Thibeault, and our direct action support work.
S-CAP is a direct-action anti-poverty organization based in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. We provide direct-action support work assisting individuals in their struggles with welfare and ODSP, housing, employers, and others who deny people what they are entitled to in order to meet their needs. In addition, we mount campaigns against and support educational work about regressive government policies as they effect working people and people living in poverty. We believe in the power of people to organize themselves. We believe in the power of resistance!
La coalition contre la pauvreté de Sudbury (S-CAP) est un organisme d’action directe luttant contre la pauvreté. Elle se trouve à Sudbury en Ontario.
Le travail de la coalition se base dans l’action directe et consiste à apporter de l’aide aux individus dans leurs luttes pour l’assistance sociale, l’invalidité, le logement, l’emploi et à les aider à faire face aux gens qui leur refusent ce à quoi ils ont droit pour rencontrer leurs besoins. De plus, la coalition fait des compagnes de sensibilisation et de dénonciation par rapport aux politiques gouvernementales régressives quant à leurs effets sur les travailleurs et travailleuses et les personnes vivant dans la pauvreté.
La coalition croit au pouvoir des personnes de s’organiser elles-mêmes; elle croit au pouvoir de la résistance!

Let’s use this opportunity to build a student movement across Canada that is not afraid to fight, and not afraid to win. Let’s use this opportunity to build a student movement that is not content with simply begging the government for scraps by lobbying. And let’s use this opportunity to show the students of Quebec that the rest of Canada stands behind them in their struggle!

OUR DEMANDS:
1. Abolition of tuition at all levels of education! Cancellation of all outstanding student debt!
Students should no longer have to pay for education. Students who could not afford post-secondary education should no longer be punished by high-interest student loans.
2. Open access to post-secondary education for all!
Free tuition alone cannot guarantee accessibility. We demand guaranteed admission to every post-secondary institution for all students. Good quality post-secondary education should not simply be for the elite; everyone should have access to the schools and programs of their choice.
3.Education in the service of the people, not profit!
Education should serve the interests of people, not corporations or profit. Research should be done for the benefit of all, not the benefit of private firms. We demand that a democratic and scientific education should replace the imperialist, settler colonial and patriarchal curriculum in post-secondary schools. Education should prepare us to struggle for justice and liberation, not simply prepare us to work.
4. Access to post-secondary education for all indigenous people and an anti-colonial aspect to all programs!
We recognize that Canada, as a settler colony, is built on stolen land and the genocide of Indigenous peoples. Increased funding must be made available for all indigenous people to have access to post-secondary education, as well as for the creation of indigenous colleges and universities. We demand that education preserves the cultures and languages of indigenous people within post-secondary education, and a necessary anti-colonial component to all programs.
5. Democratic control of post-secondary institutions!
Universities and colleges should be run by the people they serve, not by unelected boards of governors filled with representatives of the big banks and large corporations. We demand the abolition of boards of governors, and their replacement with representative bodies composed of students, faculty, support staff, and members of the community. All representatives should be determined by the university’s community, and subject to recall at any time.

Time: 7pm to 9pm
Location: The Motley Kitchen (70 Young Street, Sudbury)
PRESENTING THE DESIGN: A REGIONAL FOOD HUB
The time has come to present the design for the NEW Regional Food Hub to be built by Eat Local Sudbury Co-op.
Learn more about our region’s unique Food Hub model that incorporates local food aggregation and food education for consumers, producers and wholesale purchaser.
Presentation is FREE to attend.
Please note that the presentation will be preceded by a Local Food Mingle and Mash at the same location from 5pm to 7pm, for a cost of $15 (tickets available at Eat Local Sudbury, 176 Larch Street; free for 'Scaling Up Wholesale Workshop' attendees). Join us at for some local food and beverages. We want to meet and chat about how the community can participate in the future of local food for the region.
