Friday night cabaret: The incredible Patricia Cano will be performing songs from Tomson Highway's The Post Mistress June 7 at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the cabaret are $30 and are available at the STC box office, 170 Shaughnessy St, 705.674.8381, www.sudburytheatre.on.ca. Patricia will be accompanied by Tomson and Jean-Yves Begin. A reception to celebrate Wordstock will follow. This is a great start to the Sudbury Art Council's inaugural literary festival.

Tomson Highway writes novels, plays, and music. He studied music and English literature at the University of Manitoba and Western University. His plays include THE REZ SISTERS, and DRY LIPS OUGHTA MOVE TO KAPUSKASING. The latter won numerous awards and was the first Canadian play in the history of Canadian theatre to receive a full production and extended run at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre (1990).
 
In 1998, he published his first novel, KISS OF THE FUR QUEEN, which spent weeks on Canadian bestseller lists. He has written three children's books in Cree and English.
Highway has been Writer-in-Residence at several universities including at U to T and Concordia. He has criss-crossed the world with his readings, lectures, performances (at the piano), and teaching.
Tomson lives part of the year in the French River area.

Saturday Festival: Writers who have confirmed their attendance on June 8 include Sean Costello, Colleen Kleven, Daniel Groleau Landry, Scott Overton, Roger Nash, Daniel Aubin, Colin Hayward, Kim Fahner, Dieter Buse, Chris Nash, Charlie Smith, Matthew Heiti, and Dale Pepin aka Story Socks. Andy Lowe performs in the cafe lounge.  Visit the bookshop.

There will be children's programming in the morning, as well as readings and workshops all day June 8 starting at 10 am. There will be an open mic session and a chance to pitch ideas to editors and publishers.

Admission on Saturday, June 8 is Pay What You Can (suggested minimum is $10).
