Press Release
For the 6th year in a row, we are endeavoring to assemble and deliver gift baskets with the help of private and corporate sponsors, as well as club fundraising efforts for the Christmas Gift Basket Program.
The Laurentian University PreMed Club takes-on a large initiative every year to advertise, organize, and fund the LU Gift Basket Program. The program gives a helping hand to LU Students who have children and who are completing their studies at the same time (you may have seen the article written in the most current issue of the LAMBDA).
This is an incredibly important program which provides gifts of new toys, clothing, and food to 20-30 LU student families and has been operating for the past 6 years. We have established a long-term partnership with many generous individuals, departments, and businesses who take a family or a few children under their wing, purchasing and wrapping these gifts.
Often times, there are more families to sponsor than sponsors and the LU PreMed Club, on top of the administrative role played, sponsors these families through fundraising efforts done in the first semester of school. These baskets contain food and grocery store gift cards as well as new toys and children’s clothing, each one ranges in value of $200-$300 depending on family size. Last year, in collaboration with the Student Accessibility Services, we sponsored 28 families and this year we hope to sponsor 20-30 again.
This is an incredible undertaking that requires teamwork, dedication, and perseverance, along with the amazing generosity of community partners, and hopefully, that of the Alumni Association.
By accomplishing the LU Gift Basket program, the LU PreMed club gives of itself to the community, provides learning and networking experience, valuable volunteer opportunities to its members, and a chance to gain personal and professional growth.
We thank you for your donation, this program would not be possible without your generosity.

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
