Tokyo Police Club & The Strumbellas to Play Northern Lights Festival Boréal
Sudbury, ON – Preparations for Northern Lights Festival Boréal 2014 are in full swing, as organizers prepare to announce an unparalleled lineup on April 22nd . Organizers are so excited about the 2014 lineup that they have decided to spill some of the beans a bit early. NLFB is thrilled to present Tokyo Police Club this year, as the headliner for Friday, July 4 th . Since their formation in 2005, this group has played many of the largest music festivals, and has had several acclaimed releases. This is a group that Rolling Stone has described as, “poised to become the biggest Canadian export since Molson.” They have just released their highly anticipated album Forcefield, including the single ‘Hot Tonight’, which has been tearing up the charts and airwaves across Canada, and beyond.
Adding to all of this excitement, NLFB organizers have decided to let one other festival act out of the bag early: The Strumbellas are generating a major buzz across the continent, with their fresh, innovative take on a folk/roots style. Their highly acclaimed album We Still Move on Dance Floors earned them the award for Roots & Traditional Group Album of the Year at the most recent Juno Awards. The group will join the festival Sunday, July 6 th , in workshops and on the main stage (along with a ton of other fantastic artists, yet to be announced).
These acts are the only official names on the festival lineup so far, other than 2014 Meltdown winners Patrick Wright et les Gauchistes and Jazz Paradis. These local, emerging artists earned their spots at the organization’s annual competition event this past weekend at The Townehouse Tavern.
The remainder of the festival lineup will be announced on April 22nd via an official media event and online. At this time, All-Day Passes will go on-sale for specific days of the festival.
Advance Weekend Passes are on-sale now, including the new, discounted Student Weekend Pass. Students can purchase weekend passes for $60 incl. HST online and at the NLFB office (Student I.D. presented upon entry). The regular price for Advance Weekend Passes is $85 incl. HST. Advance Weekend Passes are currently available online at www.nlfbsudbury.com and at various outlets throughout town (see website for details). Information about volunteering, vendors, sponsorship and more can also be found online as well.
Northern Lights Festival Boréal has long been known for high-profile musical acts, with a strong lineup of emerging talent, visual artists, and family activities. This summer’s festival takes place Jul 4 th -6 th in Sudbury’s beautiful Bell Park, along the shores of Lake Ramsey.
“I’ve been attending the festival my entire life,” says Max Merrifield, Festival Director, “I think I can honestly say that no lineup has excited me more, in terms of diversity and overall buzz.”
