Sudbury Symphony Invites Audiences to Escape with Midnight in Paris
Fundraiser brings Academy Award Winning Film & Live Concert Together
Sudbury, ON Nov. 4: The old saying “Don’t Mess with Success” holds true as the Sudbury Symphony brings back a special one night event that debuted to acclaim last year.
In 2013, The SSO’s presentation of The Red Violin, was a hit as music and film lovers gathered to watch the combination of an award-winning film and the sweet sounds of members from the Big Nickel’s popular orchestra.
Woody Allen’s Oscar-winning Midnight in Paris gets the nod this year as the Sudbury Symphony and Music and Film in Motion offer up a night of live music and film for one night only on Saturday, November 8.
“Last year’s event was so much fun,” Dawn Cattapan, Executive Director of the Sudbury Symphony said. “It’s a great way to bring music, film and our community together in a new way that is intimate, interesting and clearly enjoyed.”
With an all-star cast, including Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Rachel McAdams and Owen Wilson, Midnight in Paris is a romantic comedy about an engaged American couple on a trip to Paris. Seeking inspiration through the City of Lights, Owen Wilson’s idealistic character, Gil, doesn’t just daydream about escaping his daily life; he finds himself travelling back to 1920s Paris and begins to wonder if a life different from his own would be much better. In his review, Richard Roeper gave the film 3.5/4 stars, calling it “smart, funny, whimsical- one of the best romantic comedies in years.”
The evening begins at 7:30pm at College Boréal’s Concert Hall, located at 21 Lasalle Blvd, with a concert featuring musicians of the Sudbury Symphony. Following the film screening, local filmmakers and artists will come together in a curated discussion about nostalgia in art, moderated by CBC’s Jenifer Norwell.
