MEDIA RELEASE: FREE SNOWSHOEING & URBAN POLING DROP-IN CLASSES FOR 55+

Rainbow Routes is hosting FREE snowshoeing and urban poling courses for those aged 55 and up starting January 19th. There will be a large selection of both indoor and outdoor classes held weekly in various parts of the city.

Through the Trails4Life project (a physical literacy partnership with the Sudbury & District Health Unit (SDHU), The City of Greater Sudbury (CGS), and Sudbury Bioski) all urban poles and snowshoes are provided free of charge for the class. Tracy Sanmiya, project manager of Trails4Life says, “It’s a wonderful program! You don’t have to buy anything – you don’t have to invest in a fancy gym membership or lots of expensive equipment. You can just come on out, meet some people and give it a try. One class or a bunch of classes! Plus, it’s a lot of fun too!”

Participants are encouraged to try a weekly class to improve their health and fitness level. Sanmiya states that, not only is the sport enjoyable, but Nordic Walking or Urban Poling is also a full body, low-impact workout perfect for those wanting a rehabilitative sport aiming to improve posture, balance and stability. Sanmiya also says, “With each class, our Trails4Life instructors will explore Sudbury’s beautiful trails! The outdoor classes will travel the city highlighting the beauty of the outdoors and the history of specific areas of our great city. Our trails are a huge tourist attraction to be celebrated and a great distraction from the long days of winter.”

About the Sudbury Working Group

The Sudbury working-group of The Media Co-op was formed to create independent media in the North, to speak to our issues and outlooks on our communities as well as the world around us. Independent media provides an avenue for people who are wishing to gain critical perspective on the issues that matter most to us, and to give a voice to those people and stories that you won't find in the mainstream media.
