The Laurentian Concert Band proudly presents “Bucket List” on Friday, April 1 at 7:30 pm in the Auditorium at Lockerby Composite School, 1391 Ramsey View Court, Sudbury. Admission is at the door, $10 for Adults and $5 for Students/Seniors. All proceeds go to the Laurentian Percussion Fund.
The Laurentian Concert Band is a 41member ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussionists directed by Sally Lesk. The musicians are a mixture of university students and adult members of the Greater Sudbury community who share a love of playing grea music. This concert is the final one of their season and not to be missed!
“Bucket List” brings together a wide variety of new and exciting repertoire that the band has always wanted to play, such as Country Band March, as well as a few surprises– it is April Fools' Day, after all! The band is also thrilled to feature our newlyformed Sax Quintet directed by Sudbury's jazz guy Allan Walsh. This quintet will be performing a piece composed by our very own Dr. Robert Lemay, a worldreknowned composer of music for all types of musical ensembles. In addition, the concert band is very much looking forward to welcoming back Espanola native Brian Case, a former member of the band, who will perform the RimskyKorsakov Trombone Concerto accompanied by the concert band.
Brian Case is now based in Toronto and is a celebrated classical trombonist and composer for multimedia. He has been an active member of the Canadian and international music and film industries, having been invited to join projects ranging from orchestras to chamber ensembles, jazz big bands to R&B horn sections, and as executive composer of various films.
Having studied trombone under Matthew Gee in London, UK, William McElheney in Vienna,Austria, and Ron Westray and Gordon Wolfe in Toronto, he has developed a unique sound in his playing with influences from some of the leading trombonists from around the world. Brian holds a Master of Arts degree from City University London (University of London), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours degree from York University, where he held the principal seat in thesymphony orchestra, wind ensemble, brass ensemble, and jazz big band for three consecutive years. Brian has also been requested on numerous occasions to be guest performer and speaker.
