There is a public session on Lorne Street this Wednesday, but you might not know about it‏.

Residents have been advocating for improvements to Lorne Street for many years, to make it easier and safer to walk, bike, and cross the street

There is a public information session about Lorne Street this Wednesday April 6th from 4-7 at Delki Dozzi.  A lot of people have a lot of interest in Lorne Street because it affects them every day.   People living near Lorne Street have a lot of interest.  Every time the Ward 1 Community Action Network has held a community meeting in that area, making it easier and safer to walk and bike on Lorne Street has been a top issue.  People travelling by bike have a lot of interest.  They consider Lorne Street part of a minimum grid of cycling routes needed to get around the City by bike.  People getting to the grocery store or other businesses on Lorne have a lot of interest.

So, a lot of people will be affected by plans for Lorne Street.  But not a lot of people will have heard about this public information session.  As of two days before the meeting, it is not on the City website, it is not in the paper, it has not been circulated to stakeholders.  We do not know what information will be presented or if it will be about all of Lorne Street, or only the section slated for construction this summer.  We do not know if people can submit input in any other way, for example in writing or on-line, or how they would access the information they would need in order to do so.   If the City truly wants to get public input on Lorne Street, they will have to hold another public meeting, this time with timely notice and access to information, as well as ways for informed input to be submitted on-line and in writing.

So, if you are one of the many people whose daily life will be impacted by conditions on Lorne Street, then please, if your Wednesday evening is free, attend this meeting to find out more and have your say.  But also, please, pick up the phone and call your Councillor and the City and tell them that the first requirement for a public information session is letting people know about it.
